Hello everyone,
Our October get-together is on Thursday 15 October, and it's a bit of a double bill, because we're holding our AGM before the lecture.
Come early for drinks and a chat. The doors open at 6.30 pm, and we'll have drinks and snacks ready before the AGM gets going at 7. It's a lovely chance to catch up with old friends and meet other members.
Then the lecture: It starts at the usual time of 7.30 pm. Our guest speaker is Phil Drabble, who will be giving us La Belgique à la loupe (Belgium Under the Microscope).
Phil spent time driving back and forth across Belgium in an old van, finding out why this small country matters so much on the world stage. It's famous for its beers and chocolates, and it's home to the headquarters of both the EU and NATO. It also gave us Rubens, Magritte, Simenon and the great Eddy Merckx, probably the best cyclist ever. Channelling the spirit of Hercule Poirot, Phil will take us deep into a country with a fascinating mix of cultures, languages and a rather complicated history.
Where? As usual, we'll be at the Wilfrid Noyce Community Centre, Oglethorpe Hall, Crown Court Car Park, Godalming, GU7 1DY. Parking is free in the evening.
Can't make it in person? No problem, just join us on Zoom. Our Secretary, Alan Liddle, has already sent the link out with the AGM papers, so have a look in your inbox.
Membership news. We've welcomed 10 new members so far this year, which is great! Most of you have already renewed, thank you. If you haven't got round to it yet, please do so soon, as you'll need to be up to date with your membership to attend the AGM. Renewing is straightforward: just visit amitiesfrancaisesgodalming.com.
We hope to see lots of you there!
À bientôt,
Catherine
